Banker Gitelson charged with misappropriating 2.5 bln rubles

MOSCOW. Dec 23 (Interfax) - Investigators in St. Petersburg have charged former head of Bank VEFK Alexander Gitelson of misappropriating 2.5 billion rubles through fraud, spokesman for the Investigative Committee of Russia Vladimir Markin has said.

"Charges of fraud have been brought against former chairman of the Boards of Directors of Bank VEFK and Inkasbank," Markin said to Interfax on Monday.

He said that in 2007-2008 Gitelson "mislead staff members of VEFK Bank and stole over 2.5 billion rubles from the bank's vault under forged lending documents."
