Putin: Russian seaborne nuclear forces to be renewed by 2020
MOSCOW. Dec 23 (Interfax) - Eight Borei and Borei-A missile submarines and eight Yasen multi-role nuclear submarines will join the Russian Navy by 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"As you know, the Navy will acquire eight Borei and Borei-A submarines by 2020, which will renew the seaborne component of Russia's nuclear forces," Putin said in a video link to Severodvinsk, where the Alexander Nevsky submarine was transferred to the Russian Navy on Monday.
In addition, the Navy will acquire eight Yasen multi-role nuclear submarines by 2020, Putin said.
"Sevmash has practically built the lead ship, the Severodvinsk," Putin added.
