Russian Emergency Situations Ministry helps 22 states in 2013 - Puchkov
MOSCOW. Dec 24 (Interfax) - The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry conducted almost 150 humanitarian operations in 22 states in 2013, Minister Vladimir Puchkov told a Tuesday press conference at the Interfax central office.
"We carried out 145 international humanitarian operations and evacuations of Russian citizens from abroad and rendered assistance to 22 states," he said.
The ministry delivered foods, prime necessities and hygienic items, the minister said. "We also provided task team support and assisted in the management of emergency situations and the extinguishment of major fires," Puchkov said.
He also said that flood victims in the Russian Far East received assistance "from practically every part of the planet" and thanked every contributor.
"The assistance came from states, public organizations and citizens who made their donations for the Far East population," Puchkov said.
"People in our country did a lot. We cordially thank everyone," the minister said.
