Emergency Situations Ministry forms 23,000-strong force to support Sochi Games - Puchkov
MOSCOW. Dec 24 (Interfax) - The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry is ready to protect athletes and guests of the Sochi Winter Olympic Games from emergency situations, Minister Vladimir Puchkov told a Tuesday press conference at the Interfax central office.
"We are prepared to help people who find themselves in distress. We prioritize the security of Olympic athletes and guests and Sochi residents. I can assure you that the security and the protection from fires, natural and man-made disasters and various risks will be provided in Sochi on the top-notch level. It will be even higher than international standards," he said.
"The Emergency Situations Ministry has prepared a force of more than 23,000 specialists, over 2,500 vehicles and other equipment and hardware," Puchkov concluded.
