Arctic Sunrise foreign crewmembers may seek visas after their cases are closed
ST. PETERSBURG. Dec 24 (Interfax) - Greenpeace Arctic Sunrise foreign activists, criminal charges against whom are being dropped due to the amnesty, may apply for transit visas without authorization from detectives.
"They have the right to lodge visa applications with the Federal Migration Service. The applications will be processed within the set period of 20 days. None of them has applied for visas as of now," a source at the Federal Migration Service's department in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region told Interfax on Tuesday.
As to whether the visas may be issued in a facilitated procedure, the source said that decision would be made upon the submission of visa applications.
It was reported earlier in the day that detectives had started posting resolutions, which terminated criminal proceedings against Arctic Sunrise activists.
The State Duma enacted an amnesty on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Russian constitution on December 18. The Arctic Sunrise activists accused of hooliganism were eligible for the amnesty.
