Approx. 80 parties registered in Russia, 60 eligible for elections - Central Elections Commission

MOSCOW. Dec 25 (Interfax) - About 80 political parties have been registered in Russia and 63 of them may participate in elections, the Russian Central Elections Commission said.

"This reference book [on political parties existing in Russia in 2013] contains information about 78 political parties, 63 of which have the right to participate in elections," Central Elections Commission Deputy Chairman Leonid Ivlev said at the reference book's presentation on Wednesday.

Russian election laws bind a party, which wishes to partake in elections, to be registered in the Justice Ministry and to open offices in no less than half of the Russian regions.
