Govt bans imports of analogs of defense goods produced in Russia

MOSCOW. Dec 26 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has banned the imports of foreign commodities and services for national security needs unless they are not produced in Russia or fail to satisfy customers' requirements, the government press service reports.

The report posted on Thursday said the Russian government "had banned commodities with origins in foreign states and works done by foreign citizens in the procurement of commodities and works for national defense and security needs with the exception of cases in which such commodities, works and services are not produced in Russia or fail to meet the requirements of state customers."

The decision is bound to bolster the national economic development, to support Russian manufacturers, to protect the Russian domestic market, and to ensure national defense and security, the report said.
