Social NGOs to receive over 1 bln rubles as state support in 2014 - Russian government's decree

MOSCOW. Dec 26 (Interfax) - The Russian government will allocate over 1 billion rubles for state support of socially-oriented non-governmental organizations (NGO) in 2014.

"To approve the distribution proposed of subsidies allocated from the federal budget in 2014 for state support of certain public or other non-governmental organizations," the decree of the Russian government signed by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said.

The document was published on Thursday in the data bank comprising copies of Russia's legal acts.

According to the document, over one billion rubles will be allocated in 2014, in particular to the St. Petersburg Humanitarian University of Trade Unions, the Rehabilitation Center for Blind of the All-Russian Society of the Blind, the charity organization of disabled and victims of political repressions, the Russian Union of Pensioners and the central clinical hospital of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The presidential decree, according to which the government will allocate 500 million rubles to the Civil Dignity movement to support Russian NGOs, has been released.

In 2013 the Russian authorities ordered to give 250 million rubles to three Russian operators to hold contests and distribute grants among NGOs.

The budget funds of 500 million rubles, the government will allocate in 2014-2016 to support NGOs, match the foreign grants Russian NGOs received, Head of the Russian Presidential Human Rights Council Mikhail Fyodorov has said.

Following the contest, the Moscow Helsinki Group, the Union of the Committees of Soldiers' Mothers, the Memorial society and the Agora association received grants via the Civil Dignity movement.
