Sberbank CEO sees tight liquidity in banking sector
MOSCOW. Dec 27 (Interfax) - Russia's banking sector is having liquidity problems, the president and CEO of Sberbank , German Gref said in an interview with TV channel Rossiya 24 on Thursday.
"We are already feeling tightness with liquidity, so of course it is necessary to look more actively at the situation on the part of the Central Bank and Finance Ministry in order to support the banking sector with liquidity at the beginning of next year so as to prevent growth of interest rates," Gref said.
He also said that in the past two months the bank issued as many loans as it previously gave out in four months. This rapid growth was due to making up the bank's lag in the first half and the general market situation.
"This indicates that the rest of the banking sector has come to a standstill," Gref said.
