Security tightened in Moscow - official

MOSCOW. Dec 30 (Interfax) - Security has been tightened in Moscow following two acts of terrorism in Volgograd, head of the regional security department of the Moscow city administration Alexei Mayorov has told Interfax.

"Corresponding instructions have been given, measures are taken," he said.

"Concrete measures to guarantee security in the city have been taken today following the developments in Volgograd along the line of the Moscow transport department and along the line of services preventing and mitigating emergencies," Mayorov said.

"The deployment of forces and means has been updated, of course. Once again attention will be drawn to approaches to venues of public events, the routes of ground and underground transport," he said.

"The set of measures related to New Year and Christmas festivities remains in force. However, the placement of forces and means to guarantee security has been modified," he said.

On Sunday terrorist staged an explosion at the Volgograd railway station in which 17 people died and 45 more were injured. On Monday there was another explosion in a Volgograd trolley-bus in which 10 people died and 19 to 25 more were wounded.
