ASF detected in Volgograd Region
MOSCOW. Jan 9 (Interfax) - Russia's product safety watchdog Russia's Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight Service (Rosselkhoznadzor) reported the discovery of African swine fever (ASF) among household-kept hogs in the Olkhovsky district of Volgograd Region.
Four pigs have been taken away.
Previously, ASF had only been seen in wild boars in this region.
Biological samples taken from the animals have been sent to the Vladimir Region branch of the all-Russia Scientific-Research Institute. Specialists are at work on-site to stave off any spread of the disease.
