Soviet soldiers' grave vandalized in Lviv region

LVIV. Jan 9 (Interfax) - Unknown persons have partially destroyed a monument on the grave of 32 Soviet soldiers killed during World War II in the town of Hlyniany in Ukraine's Lviv region, a Lviv region Interior Ministry spokesman said on Thursday.

According to police, the vandals knocked off the heads off two statues of soldiers and an arm off one of the statues early on January 6.

The Hlyniani administration is responsible for maintaining the monument, which is not a heritage asset, it said.

A criminal investigation has been opened on the counts of vandalizing a grave or another burial site.
