Georgia tightens sanctions for fake terror alerts

TBILISI. Jan 10 (Interfax) - The Georgian authorities have toughened the administrative liability for people who make phone calls reporting false terrorist threats.

For example, if an underage citizen calls in a fake bomb threat, his parents or guardians will be ordered to pay a fine of up to $900, and a fine of $1,400 if the underage citizen in question does it again.

A teenager above 14 years old will be sentenced to up to two years of community service or even from two to five years in prison for such an offence. A prison sentence of five to seven years may be given to a repeat offender.
