Another accusation brought regarding former Georgian Defense Minister Akhalaia

TBILISI. Jan 13 (Interfax) - Former Georgian Defense Minister Bacho Akhalaia has been accused of faking an escape attempt from prison in the city of Rustavi, the Georgian Prosecutor General's Office said in a statement on Monday.

The former official has been accused of torturing prisoners and abuse of office while he headed the penitentiary department.

The current accusation is related to an incident "of preparing an escape in the first Rustavi prison in January 2006," the statement said. Investigators believe that a "fake escape attempt" occurred, which was planned by executives of the penitentiary department in order "to liquidate three people."

The prosecutor's office also accused Bacho Akhalaia's brother - former constitutional security department head of the Georgian Interior Ministry David Akhalaia, who is on the wanted list - of participation this incident.

Bacho Akhalaia has been found not guilty on three instances at trials and is currently on trial for the uprising in prison in 2006.
