Brahimi expects progress in exchanging prisoners in Syria prior to Geneva II
PARIS. Jan 13 (Interfax) - The UN expects progress in exchanging prisoners and on a ceasefire agreement between the conflicting Syrian parties prior to the Geneva II international conference, Arab League and UN Special Representative for Syria Lakhdar Brahimi said.
It concerns exchanging prisoners, granting access to humanitarian aid and a ceasefire agreement, Brahimi said. All these issues are welcomed and situation development is expected on all of them prior to the holding of the Geneva II conference on January 22, Brahimi said at a news conference on Monday in Paris following talks on preparations for the conference on Syria.
Brahimi said he hoped that the forum on Syria would be successful and that the conference in Montreux would be held amid quite favorable conditions.
The UN hoped that the conference will be held successfully, Brahimi said.
