Judge remains in intensive care after convicting suspected terrorists in Ukraine

KYIV. Jan 13 (Interfax) - Judge Yuriy Burbela of the Kyiv-Svyatoshynsky regional court, who handed down the guilty verdict to "suspected terrorists" in the town of Vasilkovo, remains in intensive care at the Kyiv regional hospital after suffering a stroke, hospital chief Mykola Ankin told Interfax.

"Burbela is in intensive care after being diagnosed with a stroke. His condition is satisfactory and stable," he said on Monday.

The patient will be moved to the neurology department in a couple of days, he also said.

An informed source told Interfax that Burbela had been threatened before and after the verdict was announced, which may have led to his current condition.

The Kyiv-Svyatoshynsky Court of Kyiv Region found the suspected Vasilkovo terrorists Igor Mosiychuk, Volodymyr Shpara and Serhiy Bevza guilty of planning to blow up a monument to Lenin in Boryspol during celebrations of Independence Day in 2011, and sentenced each of them to six years in jail.

An unidentified liquid was sprayed in the judge's face when the verdict was being read out, the police said.
