Kazakhstan plans to use Russian satellite navigation system Glonass for military purposes
ASTANA. Jan 14 (Interfax-AVN) - Kazakhstan plans to use the Russian satellite navigation system Glonass for military purposes, Kazakh Deputy Defense Minister Okas Saparov said.
"God willing, we will have an agreement with the Russian Federation this year on using the Glonass signal for military purposes under the Collective Security Treaty Organization," Saparov said at a session of the Kazakh Senate's international relations, defense and security committee in Astana on Tuesday.
A preliminary agreement will first be drawn up, after which the regulations on using the Glonass signal will be developed, he said.
"We are already using the system for civilian purposes," he said.
