Analyst: Syrian opposition's core group to most likely boycott peace forum
MOSCOW. Jan 14 (Interfax) - A Russian analyst specializing in Syria has predicted that the main Syrian opposition group will most likely boycott a planned international conference on January 22 that would become the starting points for talks between the opposition and government.
The National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces planed a vote for January 17 to decide on its participation in the Geneva II conference in Montreux, Switzerland, and Vladimir Isayev of the Asia and Africa Institute of Moscow State University argued on Tuesday that the majority of the coalition would vote for the group to stay away from the forum.
In that case, the United States and Britain might carry out their threat to cut off their logistic support for the Syrian rebels if the coalition stays away from Geneva II, Isayev told Interfax.
