Ukrainian Party of Regions demands opposition unblock Verkhovna Rada's work to pass 2014 budget
KYIV. Jan 14 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Party of Regions demands that the opposition unblock the Verkhovna Rada's work to pass the 2014 national budget.
"In expressing the will of its voters, the Party of Regions demands that the opposition unblock the parliament's work and provide an opportunity for the Ukrainian national budget's unimpeded passage to financially uphold all of the state's social commitments to the Ukrainian citizens," the Party of Regions said in a statement on Tuesday.
The party criticized the opposition forces' actions disrupting the Verkhovna Rada's work and blockading the budget process.
"Such escapades by members of the parliamentary opposition fully reveal their true intentions: for the sake of satisfying their political ambitions, they are ready to leave the country without a budget and increased social allowances and are seeking to destabilize the situation in society at any cost and provoke new conflicts and new hotbeds of dramatic forcible confrontation," it said.
In the run-up to the Day of Ukraine's National Unity and Freedom, the Party of Regions demands that the opposition stop "provocative actions aimed at the country's disintegration and a split in Ukrainian society."
It was reported earlier that the Verkhovna Rada could not resume its work on Tuesday, as several opposition parliamentarians blockaded the rostrum and the parliamentary presidium, insisting on meeting the opposition's demands, including the government's dismissal and the establishment of an ad hoc commission for investigating the actions of law enforcement agencies during peaceful demonstrations.
