Kyrgyz majority coalition candidate Kulmatov elected Bishkek mayor

BISHKEK. Jan 15 (Interfax) - Kybanychbek Kulmatov, the only candidate for Bishkek mayor nominated by the Kyrgyz ruling coalition, was elected mayor by the city lawmakers on Wednesday.

"Forty-one deputies supported Bishkek mayoral candidate Kybanychbek Kulmatov," the Bishkek city hall told Interfax.

"A total of 45 ballots were printed, and 43 deputies took part in the voting. Two ballots were ruled invalid," it said.

Kulmatov was nominated by the majority coalition comprised of the factions of the Social-Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan, Ata-Meken (Fatherland), and Zamandash (Contemporary).

Kulmatov served as the chief of the State Customs Committee in 2011-2013 and was later appointed the government's envoy (governor) in the Chui region. He was nominated for the post of Bishkek mayor in January 2014.
