Russia, Hungary still discussing terms for nuclear industry loan - minister

NOVO-OGARYOVO, near Moscow. Jan 15 (Interfax) - Russia and Hungary are still negotiating terms for a Russian loan for building two more generating units for the Paks Nuclear Power Plant in Hungary, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said on Wednesday.

"The loan would be released over a period of 10 years and have a repayment period of 21 years," Siluanov said.

"I hope we will reach the definitive decision in the first half of the year," the minister said.

He said Rosatom put the loan at "a little more than 9 billion" euros.

Going ahead with the loan "is a feasible task because every year we have some loan resources that remain unused, and through a redistribution we would be quite able to fit it in, even we started in 2014," Siluanov said.

For Russia the loan would ultimately mean manufacturing and maintenance contracts.

A Russian-Hungarian agreement on cooperation in the civilian use of nuclear energy signed on Tuesday makes provision for building two more generating units for the Paks plant, for fuels supplies for them and for their maintenance servicing.
