Lavrov, Kerry to meet on Jan 22 - ministry

MOSCOW. Jan 15 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry are planning to have a bilateral meeting during a planned international conference on Syria on January 22, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

The meeting was agreed in a phone call on Wednesday, the ministry said in a statement.

"Key international issues were discussed, including preparations for the peace conference on Syria, the task of mitigating the humanitarian crisis in that country, and the Iranian nuclear program issue. The Russian side stressed the need to strictly follow agreements reached in multilateral formats, avoiding their misinterpretation and attempts at unilateral coercive measures," the ministry said.

"The minister and secretary of state agreed to stay in contact and scheduled their next meeting for January 22 this year. They will meet on the fringes of the conference on Syria in Montreux [Switzerland]," it said.

Wednesday's phone conversation had been requested by Kerry, the ministry said.
