Georgian electricity output up 3.9% in 2013
TBILISI. Jan 16 (Interfax) - Electricity production in Georgia rose 3.9% in 2013 to 10.059 billion kilowatt-hours, OJSC Electric System Commercial Operator of Georgia (ESCO) told Interfax.
Electricity output in the fourth quarter amounted to 2.594 billion kWh, 11.3% more year-on-year.
Hydro power plants produced 14.5% more electricity at8.271 billion kWh (82.2% of total generation), while production at combined heat and power plants fell 27.7% to 1.788 billion kWh (17.8%).
Electricity imports in 2013 declined 21.2% to 484.1 million kWh, according to ESCO data. Russia supplied 95.1% of the total, 460.5 million kWh, which is 10.9% less than in 2012. Azerbaijan provided the other 23.6 million kWh, 76% less.
Georgia exported 450.6 million kWh in 2013 (14.7% less), of which 370.6 million kWh to Russia (0.3% more), 73.2 million kWh to Armenia (7.8% more) and 6.6 million kWh to Azerbaijan (44% less).
Georgia produced 9.695 billion kWh in 2012, 4.1% less than in 2011. It exported 528.1 million kWh last year, 43.2% less, and imported 614.6 million kWh, 30.5% more.
