Potential female suicide bomber, ringleader killed in counterterrorist operation in Makhachkala - National Antiterrorist Committee

MOSCOW. Jan 18 (Interfax) - A potential female suicide bomber and a man who only recently became the head of a Makhachkala-based militant group were killed in a special operation in Makhachkala on Saturday morning, the National Antiterrorist Committee reported.

"Four gunmen have been neutralized, including Makhmud Aliyev, who was appointed to head a Makhachkala group of gunmen three days ago and who was earlier convicted for rape, and Zaira Aliyeva, a 26-year-old widow of a gunman neutralized earlier, whom the thugs had been preparing to use as a suicide bomber," the NAC said in a statement on Saturday.

"Several more gunmen are still remaining in the blockaded house. The completion of the counterterrorist operation and its results will be reported later," it said.
