Russia ups electricity exports to China 33% in 2013

MOSCOW. Jan 20 (Interfax) - Russia supplied 3.495 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to China in 2013, 33% more than in 2012, System Operator UES said in materials.

The export increase is reflected in the electricity statistics for Russia's Far East: output rose 2% to 35.2 billion kWh and consumption declined 0.2% to 31.61 billion kWh.

Electricity consumption in December along declined 3.8% year-on-year to 3.4 billion kWh. Electricity generation in December declined 3.9% year-on-year to 3.68 billion kWh.

The exports to China were made by Eastern Energy Company (EEC), a 100% subsidiary of Inter RAO UES . EEC more than doubled electricity exports to China in 2012, to 2.63 billion kWh. It was reported previously that EEC planned to boost 2013 exports to China 30% to 3.35 billion kWh.

EEC was specially created for electricity deliveries to China, for the purpose of which it procures above-plan power that is not needed on the Russian market. EEC supplies electricity to China under a 25-year contract that the Inter RAO subsidiary signed with the State Grid Corporation of China in February of last year.
