Putin shown latest military hardware models

TULA. Jan 20 (Interfax) - Prior to a meeting to discuss the problems of the Foundation for Perspective Research Russian President Vladimir Putin visited OAO Shcheglovsky Val where he toured the company's production facilities.

OAO Shcheglovsky Val is a subsidiary of Open Joint-Stock Company (OAO) Instrument Design Bureau, which designs and manufactures weaponry systems. Over the period of its existence the company has designed, created and supplied over 140 models of military hardware to the army.

The Russian president was shown models of the hardware currently in the making, including the Pantsir-S1 missile system capable of destroying both aerial and ground targets, with a potential future range of up to 40 kilometers. Already the Pantsir-S1 is capable of hitting a target at a 15-kilometer altitude. Currently, these fighting vehicles are defending the airspace over the Adler and Sochi area. Besides, the head of state was shown an upgraded version of the Bakhcha infantry fighting vehicle, and a fully improved BMP-2, virtually a new-generation vehicle.

The head of state was also shown a demo film on how the weaponry systems being created at the plant operate in real-life conditions: when hitting the adversary's columns and repelling attacks from the air and the sea.

Having inspected small-arms models - pistols, automatic rifles and grenade launchers, Putin came up to a mockup of a residential complex due to be built for the company's employees. The complex will consist of 2,000 apartments.
