Saakashvili to return to politics, takes timeout for now - parliamentarian
TBILISI. Jan 21 (Interfax) - Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, residing in the United States in the past months, keeps in touch with the former ruling party United National Movement, one of the party leaders, parliamentarian David Darchiashvili told Interfax.
"Saakashvili is in constant contact with the leadership of our party and is aware of all events happening in Georgia. At the same time, he does not interfere in the activities of the party, having given complete freedom of actions," Darchiashvili said.
The former president has done "quite wisely" by taking a timeout and by not participating in political life in Georgia, Darchiashvili said.
Darchiashvili said he disagreed with the rumors circulating in Georgia that Saakashvili left the country forever.
"I think he will definitely return and engage in political life but I can not say when this will happen," Darchiashvili said.
Foreign mass media outlets reported on January 20 that Saakashvili started working in the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy of Tufts University and that the position of prominent public official was established especially for him.
According to information from Georgian mass media outlets, Saakashvili's wife Sandra Roelofs and their two sons returned home to the Netherlands in December 2013.
