Russian bank's large commercial energy credit 'a matter of the future' - Azarov
KYIV. Jan 22 (Interfax) - There is a possibility of receiving a large amount of credit from Russian commercial banks for the development of Ukraine's energy sector, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said, without further elaborating.
"Such preparatory work is under way. It is a commercial credit. Russian banks are calculating their risks, assessing prospects and return on investment," he said in an interview with the Rossiya 24 television channel, commenting on reports about a possible $6 billion energy loan from Russian banks.
At the same time the prime minister would not give further details of these talks and the projects being discuss for the lending.
"It is a matter of the future," Azarov said.
It was reported that in early January Ukrainian Government's Commissioner for Cooperation with Russia, CIS, and Eurasian Economic Cooperation and other regional associations Valery Muntiyan named among potential large Russian-funded energy projects in Ukraine the completion of the third and fourth power units at the Khmelnitskiy Nuclear Power Plant under Russian designs, the construction of a nuclear fuel plant, a hydropower plant and a hydro accumulation power plant.
