Syria stabbed in back by neighbors - al-Mualem

MONTREUX. Jan 22 (Interfax) - Damascus has accused Syria's neighbors of either inaction or betrayal.

"Syria got a stab in the back from its neighbors. Some are standing aside doing nothing. None of this would have happened if we had had an allied neighbor at the time when Syria needed help," Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Mualem said at the opening of the Geneva II peace conference.

The Turkish government played a negative role in the situation, he said. "Erdogan's government has let terrorists into its land," the Syrian foreign minister said.
