Lavrov hopes Syrian opposition to be involved in Geneva process
MONTREUX, Switzerland. Jan 23 (Interfax) - The Russian side has not received exhaustive explanations from the United Nations why representatives of the Syrian internal opposition were not invited to the Geneva II conference.
"Our UN colleagues did not give detailed and exhaustive explanations of why the situation had developed this way. We will insist on the resolution of this issue and that the requests get positive reaction," Lavrov told a news conference in the wake of the Geneva II conference on Syria on Wednesday night.
"We have supported all Syrian groups that work inside Syria. Those are the National Coordination Committee, the Popular Front for Change and Liberation, and Kurdish organizations. All of them sent written requests to the UN as the conference's organizer asking to solve the issue of their engagement in the process," Lavrov said.
