Tensions rising at contact line between Armenian, Azeri forces in Nagorno-Karabakh - Armenian defense minister

YEREVAN. Jan 23 (Interfax) - Tensions are rising at the contact line between the Armenian and Azeri armed forces, Armenian Defense Minister Seiran Oganian said.

"Certain tension has been observed both at the contact line between the armed forces of the Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan and at the northeastern section of the Armenian border," Oganian said at a government meeting on Thursday.

"We are not responding to indiscriminate firing, we respond only to precision fire," he said.

However, the situation at the border "remains under control and should not cause concerns," he said.

An OSCE mission conducted planned monitoring of the situation at the contact line between the armed forces of the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh republic and Azerbaijan near the community of Horadiz in the Hadrut district on Thursday.

The Nagorno-Karabakh Foreign Ministry told Interfax that the monitoring was carried out in line with a planned schedule, and no violations of the ceasefire accords were recorded.
