Leader of Syria's internal opposition didn't come to Geneva II because he was sent copy of invitation - Bogdanov
MOSCOW. Jan 24 (Interfax) - UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon sent invitations to Geneva II not only to Ahmed Jarba, leader of the Syrian National Coalition, but also to Hasan Abd al-Azym, the head of one of the largest internal opposition group, but he decided not to go to Geneva II because he was sent a copy of the invitation, not the original, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said.
"As we understand it, the invitation was addressed to the opposition in general. He sent one copy to Jarba and the other copy to Hasan Abd al-Azym, and it said 'to the opposition,'" Bogdanov told reporters.
"However, as I understand, Hasan Abd al-Azym was not happy about this approach, that he was sent a copy and Jarba was sent the original invitation, which apparently made it clear to everyone that it was Jarba as leader of the National Coalition who should make up the entire opposition delegation," he said.
