Brahimi in talks with al-Mualem; to meet opposition at 4 p.m. local time - minister

GENEVA. Jan 24 (Interfax) - The United Nations Secretary General's Special Envoy Lakhdar Brahimi is meeting with the Syrian governmental delegation led by Walid al-Mualem in Geneva.

"Currently Brahimi is meeting with Walid al-Mualem. At 4 p.m. Geneva time he is to meet with the opposition," Syrian Information Minister Umran al-Za'bi said.

"But it is unclear who will be leading the opposition as Ahmed Jarba has already left. Brahimi will only decide after the two meetings tonight whether he can bring both parties together for the talks. So far the parties are not ready to be in one room," the minister said.
