Corruption in defense industry is like high treason - Rogozin
MOSCOW. Jan 24 (Interfax-AVN) - Corruption in the defense industry is like high treason, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said on Friday.
"I am repeating it for those who didn't understand me the first time: corruption in the defense industry is identical to high treason," Rogozin said on Twitter, commenting on the statement made by the press service for the Main Investigations Department of the Investigations Committee for St. Petersburg stating that Alexander Ushakov, general director of the St. Petersburg-based shipyard Severnaya Verf (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, USC), has been detained on suspicion of large-scale fraud.
According to information possessed by the investigators, Ushakov signed a contract for the provision of legal and consultancy services associated with contesting a decision made by a tax authority with a commercial firm in 2012. The services were not provided. "Despite that, over 38 million rubles was paid to the counterpart, as a result of which the company suffered damage in the said amount," the Investigations Committee reported.
