Ukraine's president, opposition agree to vote in favor of amnesty law

KYIV. Jan 28 (Interfax) - A decision was made following a meeting of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and the leaders of opposition factions to hold a vote in the country's parliament in favor of an amnesty bill, Justice Minister Olena Lukash told reporters early on Tuesday morning.

"As a result of the meeting, the sides reached a conceptual agreement to vote for Ukraine's amnesty law. At our side's insistence, an imperative condition [for adopting] this law is the following: an amnesty will come into force only if [protesters] leave buildings and motorways seized by them. Otherwise, those guilty of these violations will not be amnestied," Lukash said in a statement after the latest round of talks, according to the presidential website.

The meeting was attended by first deputy presidential chief-of-staff Andriy Portnov, Lukash, Udar party leader Vitali Klitschko, Batkivshchyna faction chief Arseniy Yatsenyuk and Svoboda faction leader Oleh Tyahnybok.
