Jan 28 (Interfax) - Aslan Cherkesov, convicted for murdering Spartak fan Yegor Sviridov, has been transferred to a disciplinary cell for regime violators following a medical examination, Head of Federal Penitentiary Service Main Department for the Krasnoyarsk territory Vladimir Shaeshnikov told reporters.
"Cherkesov is now in solitary confinement. This is a special separate premises in Colony No. 31 for serving disciplinary penalties for having violated detention regulations. His number of visits, parcels and telephone conversations have been limited. I have not inquired specifically as to why he is there but it is certainly for a good reason," Shaeshnikov said.
As of now, no statements has been made by Cherkesov and his relatives, Shaeshnikov said.
"Many statements regarding him have come from his parents and lawyers. The latter meet with him daily but he has not made any statements," Shaeshnikov said.
Cherkesov has been transferred to solitary confinement following an examination for a stroke in late 2013. "The suspicion of a stroke of Cherkesov has not been confirmed after the medical exam," Shaeshnikov said.
It has been reported that in early December Cherkesov, serving a 20-year sentence in the Krasnoyarsk maximum security facility for killing Moscow resident Sviridov, was hospitalized.
According to the information of Cherkesov's attorney Bayzanat Selmurzayeva, her client was transferred immediately from the prison to an ICU of the regional tuberculosis hospital No. 1 under the Federal Penitentiary Service Main Department for the Krasnoyarsk territory.
Cherkesov is in a medical facility of the regional Federal Penitentiary Service Main Department and is under the observation of doctors and medical experts, press office head of the Federal Penitentiary Service Main Department for the Krasnoyarsk territory, Yekaterina Brotsman, said.
The mass media reports that Cherkesov went on a hunger strike are not true, Brotsman said.
"Convict Aslan Cherkesov has complained of beating by employees and of illegal use of drugs but has not gone on a hunger strike. In any case, I do not have such information," Brotsman said.
Football fan Sviridov was killed during a fight with the native of the North Caucasus on December 6, 2010 at Moscow's Kronshtadsky Boulevard.
In October 2011 Cherkesov was found guilty of murdering Sviridov and was sentenced to 20 years in a maximum security prison.
