Acting head of Rospotrebnadzor sees no reason to allow supply of ractopamine-containing meat from U.S.

MOSCOW. Jan 28 (Interfax) - The administration of Russia's Rospotrebnadzor has spoken against lifting the ban on the supply from the United States of meat containing ractopamine, an agent that stimulates muscle growth.

"We have a scientifically substantiated position and evaluation of the associated health risks. There are no grounds for its reconsideration," Anna Popova, acting head of Rospotrebnadzor, told Interfax on Tuesday.

Russia banned the supply of virtually all red meat from the U.S. in February 2013.
