Aeroflot to open office in Georgia, resume flights to Tbilisi
MOSCOW. Jan 31 (Interfax) - Aeroflot - Russian Airlines has said it will open an office in Georgia and launch passenger traffic between Moscow and Tbilisi.
"The future opening of the Aeroflot office in Tbilisi and the expected beginning of passenger flights between Moscow and Tbilisi will contribute to the implementation of the strategy of expansion of the company's route map," the airline said after the January 30 meeting of its board of directors.
It was reported in October 2013 Aeroflot may restore flights to Tbilisi already in its 2013/2014 winter schedule. "Flights to Tbilisi will resume on the condition of restoration of air traffic between Russia and Georgia, which will add another destination to the route map," it said.
The winter schedule is in effect from October 27, 2013, through March 29, 2014.
Regular air traffic between Russia and Georgia stopped in 2008. Urals and Siberia Airlines are performing charter flights to Georgia at present.
The Aeroflot board of directors also discussed flight security, option program outcomes and company procurements in 2013, and ways to optimize these and other areas of operation.
