No reason for tougher deadlines on Syria's chemical weapons removal - Russian diplomat
MOSCOW. Jan 31 (Interfax) - There is no reason to set tougher deadlines for the removal of Syrian chemical weapon from the country, as urged by the United States, a high-ranking Russian diplomat said.
"We can see that the Syrians are serious and conscientious about fulfilling their obligations. We see no need to nudge them or drive them into excessively tough deadlines," Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Department for Security and Disarmament Mikhail Ulyanov said in an interview with Interfax.
"But our American partners, in their idiosyncratic manner, are betting on pressure even in those cases where there is clearly no need for that. Hence their desire to set a tougher schedule, which does not always match reality," the diplomat said.
