Leningrad region blogger arrested for inciting religious discord

ST. PETERSBURG. Jan 31 (Interfax) - Investigators in the Leningrad region have launched a criminal case against 55-year-old man from the region's Vsevolozhsk district, who posted extremist information on his blog, the Russian Investigative Committee's Investigative Directorate for the Leningrad region said on Friday.

According to the inquiry, on November 13, 2013, the man signed in to one of Internet websites, where he started a blog with entries containing extremist statements.

"According to expert analysis, the posted entries contain the linguistic and psychological hallmarks of inciting discord against a group of people on the grounds of their religion, which are accessible to a broad public," the spokesperson said.

The inquiry has been launched under part one article 282 of the Russian Criminal Code (inciting hatred and animosity, public demeaning of human dignity of an individual or a group of individuals). The man was questioned as a suspect.
