Ashton representatives' explanations unconvincing - ministry

MOSCOW. Feb 3 (Interfax) - The explanation by the press office for European Union High Representatives for Foreign and Security Policy Catherine Ashton of the reasons why Russian journalists were barred from her briefing in Kyiv on January 29 is unconvincing, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"The explanations by Ashton's press secretary obtained via diplomatic channels that the absence of Russian journalists at her briefing was due merely to the difficulties in terms of logistics and security, which allowed them to organize the presence of only a certain number of reporters at the event, can hardly be considered satisfactory," Russian Foreign Ministry's spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said in a commentary posted on the ministry's website on Monday.
