All stock to be destroyed at farm in Tula region where ASF detected
TULA. Feb 3 (Interfax) - Over 50,000 pigs will be killed at the Lazarevskoye farm in the Shchekinsky district of the Tula region, where an African swine fever (ASF) outbreak has been registered, Lazarevskoye Head Fyodor Romanovsky told reporters on Monday.
"The entire stock will be destroyed - this is over 50,000 animals," Romanovsky said.
As of now farm employees have gone home, Romanovsky said.
It has been reported that an ASF outbreak was registered at the Lazarevskoye enterprise, the largest farm of the Tula region, late last week.
Due to this, a quarantine has been introduced in the Shchekinsky and Pavlovsky districts of the Tula region and restrictions have been imposed. Veterinarians have determined the areas to be isolated where animals are.
Most products of Lazarevskoye have already been removed from stores and their costs will be compensated from the regional budget.
Following the agreement reached between Tula region head Vladimir Gruzdeyev and Head of the Russian Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Monitoring Service (Rosselkhoznadzor) Sergei Dankvert, experts of Rosselkhoznadzor, the federal center for animals' health and a group of veterinarians from the Krasnodar territory, who have experience in subduing ASF outbreaks at major swine breeding farms, will be sent to the Tula region.
Lazarevskoye is the largest agriculture enterprise of the Tula region. It grows and processes crops and animal products. The farm produces over 70% of the pork in the Tula region.
