Talks between Syria's working groups possible after interim govt problem solved - opposition
MOSCOW. Feb 4 (Interfax) - A discussion of Syrian settlement in Geneva between the government's and opposition's working groups is only possible after the problem of forming an interim government is solved, a National Coalition leader, Burhan Galyun, told Interfax.
"I don't think parallel work is possible in several groups before the two delegations come to terms on the core issue - the formation of an interim government," he said.
Media reports said earlier that Russia had proposed splitting the Syrian delegations into profile working groups during the second round of the Geneva talks to deal with local armistices, humanitarian aid, exchanges of prisoners and the formation of an interim government.
"After we come to terms we will have to work in several groups to implement the UN Security Council's resolution (on Syria)," Galyun said.
Meanwhile, National Coalition of Opposition Forces leader Badr Jamous earlier told Interfax that the opposition want the working groups to be active during the second round in dealing with technical and political issues in parallel processes.
"We agree with this and we even proposed that technical issues, including humanitarian aid, be discussed separately from political issues. We do not want to divide these issues. We want these processes to run in parallel and simultaneous procedures,." Jamous said.
