Parliament must start drafting economic strategy - Batkivshchina
KYIV. Feb 4 (Interfax) - Ukrainian lawmaker Serhiy Sobolev of the Batkivshchina Party has urged the Verkhovna Rada to draw up an action plan before starting work.
"I propose announcing a recess after deputies' speeches for consultations within factions, and resuming work after an action plan has been prepared," he told the parliament on Tuesday.
He said the Batkivshchina Party wants "Ukraine's constitutional space to be revived and a constitutional act to be proclaimed in the Verkhovna Rada to guarantee a return to the constitutional space."
"People who joined protest rallies and the Batkivshchina party faction want protestors to be amnestied without any preconditions. But those who killed and tortured citizens must not be amnestied," Sobolev said.
He said all political prisoners must be freed, including ex-prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
"The parliament must start drafting a clear-cut economic strategy without delay," he said.
"The Rada must instruct the new government to sign an association and free trade zone agreement with the European Union," the lawmaker said.
