Russia not to revise gas deal terms if Ukraine meets them - Kremlin
MOSCOW. Feb 5 (Interfax) - Moscow is anxious about Ukraine's growing payment arrears for Russian natural gas but will not revise the terms of its gas deal with the neighboring country if the latter complies with them, Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesman said.
"If the current documents are essentially complied with, no one will have any reason to revise anything, nor will there be any revisions. That is definite," Dmitry Peskov told Russia's Kommersant-FM radio on Wednesday.
However, "the growing debt for gas supplies is a source of anxiety" for Moscow, he said. "As we know, Gazprom [MOEX: GAZP] has been saying that the debt is growing, and very rapidly as well. But we hope that our Ukrainian partners will fulfill all the points of the current agreement."
In a comment on a proposed Russian loan to Ukraine, Peskov said: "As the minimum, Moscow wants Kyiv to understand clearly how that money will be spent."
"Moscow has documented no conditions for a loan, nor has anyone had any written promises from Ukraine. What the issue is essentially about is elementary understanding of what would happen to that money," he said.
