U.S. hopes for creation of technical govt in Ukraine for crisis resolution - Nuland

KYIV. Feb 7 (Interfax) - The U.S. is hoping for the de-escalation of the conflict in Ukraine and the creation of a technical government to resolve the crisis, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland said.

Speaking about the results of her meetings with Ukrainian government officials and opposition at a press conference in Kyiv on Friday, Nuland said the main issue is de-escalation of the tensions in the streets.

Nuland said it is important to make the people of Ukraine feel confident that the authorities will protect human rights and resolve the situation without violence.

The second priority now is to support those representatives of the Ukrainian system who are working together on constitution and electoral reform needed for the creation of a technical government, with which the international community can work in a balanced way to resume economic prosperity and security in Ukraine, Nuland said.

These issues have been discussed in meetings with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and opposition leaders, Nuland said.
