IOC has no evidence of a deal between U.S. and Russia in figures skating in Sochi - spokesman
SOCHI. Feb 9 (Interfax) - The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has no evidence of an alleged deal between Russia and the United States on the distribution of medals in figure skating at the current Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.
"I've seen absolutely no evidence apart from what I've read in the [media] and we'll treat that as a bit of gossip with no grounds," IOC spokesman Mark Adams said at a Sunday press conference at the Sochi media center. He added that there would be no investigation.
"Of course, we take it seriously, but having read the report I didn't see anything other than an unnamed person making an allegation," he said.
Adams assured his audience that the IOC controls the entire process of the Games.
On Saturday some foreign media claimed that the figure skating federations of Russia and the United States had agreed on mutual support in order to guarantee victory to Americans Meryl Davis and Charlie White in ice dancing in exchange for Russia's victory in the team event and pair skating (Tatyana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov).
