Russian HRC shocked by Ukraine's entry ban on rights campaigner

MOSCOW. Feb 9 (Interfax) - Russia's Presidential Human Rights Council will file an official inquiry with the Russian Foreign Minister in connection with the Ukrainian authorities' entry ban on Russian rights campaigner and member of the Presidential Human Rights Council Andrei Yurov.

"We deem this sort of treatment of Russian rights campaigners by any foreign government unacceptable, and just shocking in the case of a fraternal country like Ukraine," Presidential Human Rights Council head Mikhail Fedotov told Interfax on Sunday.

Yurov, who is also an expert of the Moscow Helsinki Group, was officially denied entry to Ukraine on Sunday and sent back to Moscow aboard the same plane. He had been planning to attend an international conference and to meet with the Ukrainian human rights commissioner in Kyiv.
