Rosstat hands foreign investment stats to Central Bank

MOSCOW. Feb 11 (Interfax) - Russia's Federal Statistics Service (Rosstat) will no longer calculate and publish data on foreign investment, as it has handed over all responsibility for this to the Central Bank, Rosstat head Alexander Surinov told reporters during an agency board meeting on Tuesday.

"The relevant law has gone into effect. Now this is fully under the authority of the Central Bank," Surinov said.

He said that starting this year Rosstat will no longer calculate data on foreign investment in Russia, including data on foreign direct investment. He recalled that this was proposed by the Central Bank itself, and now all responsibility for calculating these data has been transferred to the Bank of Russia.

Previously, data on foreign investment were published by both the Central Bank and Rosstat, but due to different methodologies the figures often differed widely.
