Moscow welcomes willingness of constructive Syrian opposition to participate in Geneva process
MOSCOW. Feb 12 (Interfax) - Moscow believes that the settlement of the Syrian issue requires the support of all forces interested in a political settlement.
"We welcome the willingness of representatives of the constructive Syrian opposition to take part in the Geneva process. We proceed from the belief that broad support of all forces interested in a political settlement is needed for reaching difficult compromises in the course of the inter-Syrian dialogue capable of stopping the fratricidal war in Syria and their following practical implementation," Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich has said.
The website of the ministry carries the text of his reply to a question from the media related to the failure of an understanding between the Syrian National Coalition and the National Coordination Body about participation in the Geneva process.
He said that back at the stage of preparing the launch of the inter-Syrian dialogue based on the Geneva Communique Russia insisted on including all influential Syrian opposition organizations ready to agree with the Syrian government on aspects of a political settlement of the crisis in this dialogue.
"We proceed from the belief that all Syrian sides willing to take part in the Geneva process should be given such an opportunity," he said.
